9/12/13 Ms. Phillips hw

All Eng. Lit. classes: quiz Monday on literary elements and techniques discussed so far.  Bring your copy of the short story.  If you don’t, you will not be able to take the quiz.  You will be asked to identify specific elements and techniques in “Everyday Use”.

Eng. Comp.: take-home quiz due Monday: an essay on something you feel strongly about.  You must have evidence (supporting details) for whatever you claim.

AP Psych: read handout.  Quiz Tuesday on the rest of the material learned so far in Research and Methodology.  For 9/30: read Wikipedia article on Genie (skip the technical details of her hearing tests.)  Go to highschoolbioethics.edu and read Case 4 Genie the Wild Child: Research or Exploitation.  There will be a quiz on Oct. 2 or 3 on this material.

N.B. to certain students in Eng. Comp.: Unexamined biases, no matter how long you have had them, DO NOT CONSTITUTE EVIDENCE.  That you wish something were so DOES NOT CONSTITUTE EVIDENCE.  That most people you know think the way you do DOES NOT CONSTITUTE EVIDENCE.  That something seems plausible DOES NOT CONSTITUTE EVIDENCE.  The fact that YOU think something DOES NOT CONSTITUTE EVIDENCE.  That some authority in another field has rendered an opinion about your topic DOES NOT CONSTITUTE EVIDENCE.
