Read “Signs and Symbols” (also known as “Symbols and Signs”) by Nabokov. Here’s a link just in case:
1. Read the story carefully. If you come across a word with which you are unfamiliar, write it down and look up the definition. Bring a list of 10 words with definitions. (If you know all the words in the story and are not in need of such a list, be prepared to be tested on words from the story on Monday.)
2. The story’s meaning is difficult to make out. For Monday, write a list of at least 10 questions on the story – point out the strange or unclear elements of the story (and there are many).
